Phantom Hourglass felt pretty "meh" outside of some of the more interesting controls, such as making a path for your boomerang, and other controls were downright annoying, such as the roll or even just regular slashes and such, they definitely should've put some stuff on buttons and left the touch screen just for boomerang, bomb, arrow, etc.

The game itself was pretty boring really. I had to force myself to finish it. Not very difficult or interesting puzzles.

I personally think Twilight Princess is underrated, they made great in-roads to making a fully-realized world (it's way bigger than OOT for one thing), and some of the dungeons were great, such as the new Water Temple, etc. Also they put in plot elements outside of visiting dungeons, making the game seem more story-driven.

Regardless though for sheer fun Wind Waker is still the best in my opinion. You have to play it in a certain way though (explore everywhere from the start, actually do optional stuff a lot), and I believe a lot of people just went from point A to B to C up through dungeon 8, got Triforce pieces, beat Ganon, the end. That is NOT the way to play Wind Waker at all and I'm glad I replayed it and realized how non-linear it is. Not quite the same level of non-linearity as the original but it was a big step in the right direction, and you actually felt like you were exploring something. I think the next Zelda that comes out I'm totally never going to look at the strategy guide unless I'm stuck on something because for Wind Waker at least the game was definitely best played without consulting a strategy guide for "best route through the game".

EDIT: As for HL2: E3 (lol E3), it might be shown at E3 2009, I didn't think it was going to be but I might have misread something. I mean, I hope they do show something, as having just played all the Half-Life games I can speak to their superiority over pretty much anything else.

I think the reason MM failed to an extent is much like with Phantom Hourglass you're forced to do the same thing six hundred times. And most people don't like that if it's not interesting, and they don't want to wait until it changes or gets more interesting, or what have you.

Sailing in WW is not a chore because on the way to your destination you're supposed to kill pirates and rob their submarines and boats and towers for monies. Plus, I mean, yeah, cheat a little bit and realize you can get the warp spell, but still. You're supposed to feel like you're on an ADVENTURE.
