I like all the characters so far, there aren't any annoying ones. Aurora is charmingly ditzy in my opinion, as her inability to control her temper causes shenanigans to ensue more and more often as the game has progressed. Comments from NPCs that she disagrees with are accompanied by a sprite portrait that never fails to make me laugh, either. "Aurora is not amused" seems to be exactly what it exudes.

Like I said before, Kairu is pretty likable, usually exasperated with Aurora. He gets to use water magic for a few short minutes of game time when in possession of his father's sword, but that doesn't last very long before he hands it over to Nephi. AS I said before, he's magicless, though not techless, of course.

Nephi reminds me quite a bit of Edgar from FFVI in personality, although the character's abilities are radically different, since he uses Dark magic and stealth techniques. His primary weapon is throwing knives, and he can use Backstab on enemies for quite a bit of damage, which is a teleport move. When he uses the double teck Flamma Stab with Aurora he teleports HER and she uses a fireball on the enemies back for quite a bit of damage. He also has a lot of poison attacks, and his double tech with Kairu is the second most damaging attack I've unlocked so far.

Isa though is my favorite character so far because she has healing magic as well as a very strong offense. Double techs with Kairu are the best so far: one allows you to heal the entire party, the other, Storm Strike, if you can maneuver her and Kairu onto the opposite sides of a group of enemies, deals massive damage--I was doing around 1200 damage to pretty much every enemy using it. It's not always possible, since you have to be able to maneuver the enemies in between her and Kairu, but it's definitely the most powerful attack so far. She's also probably the most "badass" character so far--Nephi is more of a ladies man and Rogurd is a bit bumbling.

Haven't got to play as Rogurd yet.

A character called "Asi" joined the group for a short period. I'm under the impression he is secretly Vai, though, who is sort of made out to be the villain so far, having waged war on Bel Lenora 15 years prior to the story. In classic RPG plot-style, though, I"m sure that there is more than meets the eye, and he is not the real villain of the story. Also since his name is Isa spelled backwards and the two have the same color hair I'm going to conjecture that they're siblings.

Not to spoil the story too much, but so far it seems that just as everyone in Bel Lenora can use magic except Kairu, and this makes him seem an outsider, when you leave Bel Lenora through a cave and emerge in a much larger world, magic is seen as an anomaly, and the few who can use it are feared and hunted by the Sammarkand Empire. So Vai and Kairu seem like anomalies in Bel Lenora, but are probably actually normal by the standards of the world at large. Aurora on the other hand keeps getting hunted, as does Isa.

Anyway, the plot at the moment seems to be concerned with helping Isa and the rest of the Genufans fight against Sammarkand, but like I said, there's a cursed sword and ancient evil stuff going hinted at so this should turn out to be quite nostalgic!

By the way, while there is a high encounter rate (though in my opinion it's comparable to pretty much any RPG with random encounters), much like in CT, if you use a liberal amount of area-effect double techs you can go through a lot of battles pretty quickly. Sometimes it goes slower but you can still use single target techs, etc., to take out enemies more quickly. It's not Dragon Quest, is what I'm saying, where battles can seem to drag on a little bit if you're underleveled. Like I said, I haven't had to level yet at all, and now that I've played with three characters in the party and opened up a lot of double techs the game seems a lot more fast paced and interesting.
