Well quickest IS usually least painful. I mean, something instantaneous, like the guillotine, is probably best. But I guess knocking people out and giving them a poison is probably completely painless, IF they do it right, but it takes like 20 minutes to a half hour. So there are definitely faster and fairly pain free ways to do it.

An economist should probably be in charge of the process, he'd find the most cost-effective way. Hmm...I'd say dropping them off a height but there might be psychological damage on the way down and it would be kind of messy to clean up. Definitely instant death if it's high enough, though.

I think the only state that fast tracks people is Texas, and it's dependent on the crime. Personally, if no new evidence is forthcoming after you've been on death row for ten years...it's probably time to hang it up.

I'm not really against life imprisonment, though, as long as they find a way to pay for their food/lodging that doesn't increase my taxes. But usually if you commit murder they don't trust to take you outside the prison to work on a chain gang, so then ironically the people who are in prison the longest time (life imprisonment) end up not paying for the prison, so we get screwed out of our tax dollars.

Then again, they could save a lot of money by cutting down on the amount of people in prison. Seriously, drop the whole stupid 2-3 year sentences for non-violent offenses. Just make them do community service for those 2-3 years. They're not a danger to others for, whatever, smoking pot or joyriding. I'm not saying they don't have to pay for what they did but surely there's a better system than putting them in prison where we just have to pay for them. Then when you don't have to take care of all these people you can better afford to pay for life imprisonment for other offenders (if you care about that sort of thing, which obviously, say, California does).

What's funny is the serial killers are the ones most likely to be declared insane and simply put in solitary confinement prison for life, whereas your average joe, who just kills his wife for, oh, insurance payments, will be the most likely candidate for the death penalty.

So, I mean, if you're just going to kill one person, think about it: if you kill twenty other people, and maybe eat some of your own feces during the trial, you could get off on just life imprisonment.

What a dumb argument. It's often easier to find veins on overweight people.

And also--22 1/2 years on death row?! Must we be at such extremes in this country? Texas puts multiple murderers to the front of the line, and Ohio waits 22 1/2 years to do the deed. Surely we can meet in the middle, people.

EDIT: actually I guess they had a moratorium on executions until 1999 in Ohio, so I guess it wasn't really 22 1/2 years on Death Row by choice of the state.
